Urticaria

Hives (urticaria) are one of the most common skin diseases, and can appear suddenly and without warning. Typical symptoms such as itchy welts, redness, or swelling of the skin are a major burden for many sufferers. The right treatment is crucial for quickly relieving symptoms and allowing people to enjoy their daily lives without disruption.

Medically known as urticaria, the condition can occur in acute or chronic forms, accompanied by severe itching and unpleasant skin reactions. To effectively determine the cause, a specialist assessment in dermatology or allergology is essential.

What are the symptoms of hives?

Hives are characterized by sudden onset of hives, spots, and swelling that can spread across the entire skin. These changes resemble insect bites or nettle irritation—hence the name. Often, intense itching accompanies the condition, which can severely impair quality of life. In more severe cases, redness also occurs around the eyes, mouth, or even the nose.

Symptoms vary from patient to patient. Some experience only mild skin irritation, while others suffer from severe rashes that last for hours or days.

In addition to the acute form, there is also chronic urticaria—a variant in which symptoms persist for more than six weeks. In such cases, a specialist or dermatologist is required to specifically investigate the causes and initiate appropriate treatment.
